Karen is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker since 1994, with advanced practice clinical skills in providing trauma informed behavioral health care utilizing evidence based treatment interventions, She has experience providing psychotherapy to a diverse population of people from across the socio economic spectrum and ethnicities, including providing services to the LGBTQ community as well as to the chronically mentally ill or family members affected by the behavioral health of their loved ones.
Karen has multiple specialty certifications including Eye Movement Desensitization Processing therapy (EMDR), Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT) and National Anger Management Association (NAMA) certification, and Hypnosis. She is also trained in Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) and incorporates DBT into her therapy,
In her work with couples, Karen uses a combination of approaches drawing upon her training in Integrated Behavioral Couples therapy, the Gottman Method of couples counseling, and Emotionally Focused Couples therapy,
​Karen works extensively with active military service members, veterans and their family members, In her work with military personnel, Karen uses Prolonged Exposure therapy for the treatment of trauma. She is also a Military Sexual Trauma treatment provider.

Karen has presented at numerous professional and community workshops in her areas of expertise. She taught Psychological First Aid and Disaster Mental Health Services courses for the Chicago Red Cross from 2009 to 2015. In addition she served as an Interim board member for the National Association for Social Workers from 2013 to 2014.
