Cheryl Runion is a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor with a Masters degree in Community Counseling from Roosevelt University with 40 years of experience.  Cheryl has been a full-time staff therapist at NWTA since 2000. She is a Certified Addictions Counselor (CADC) and provides treatment for substance abuse addictions as well as sexual compulsions, pornography addiction and other sexual disorders. 

 

Cheryl  has several additional specialty certifications including Divorce Mediator, Domestic Violence Certification, and Certification as a Criminal Justice Specialist.  She has prior administrative and supervision experience as a Clinical Program Director at a residential treatment facility for emotionally and behaviorally disordered children and adolescents.   She is experienced in the provision of marital and couples counseling as well as family therapy and has helped countless individuals, couples and families achieve balance and fulfillment in their relationships and lives. Cheryl is also an Adoption Competent Certified Therapist.

 

Cheryl is an Illinois Sex Offender Management Board certified therapist and conducts specialized evaluation and treatment for referred clients using the "Good Lives" model for treatment. 

 

Her primary theoretical focus is Cognitive Behavioral, however she applies other methods as needed for the clients that she serves.

Cheryl is energetic, organized, goal oriented and directive.  She is highly professional in her devotion to providing state of the art therapy to her clients. 

 

She is generous with her time and has volunteered helping troubled teens through the Youth Service Bureau.  More recently, she served on the Schaumburg Township Mental Health Board.  She is also involved in the Wounded Warrior Project.   She has designed and implemented a home-based dual diagnosis (mental illness and substance addictions) treatment program for teens and their families in DuPage county which continues to provide for the special needs of this population.
